At only four months old Shaylee became a victim of child abuse resulting in life-threatening injuries which resulted in her being separated from her parents. In 2019 Shaylee was rushed to the hospital and the Doctor's findings would reveal that Shaylee endured significant injuries such as blunt force trauma to her head, and blood on her brain. As a result of her injuries she now suffers from, permanent blindness, post-traumatic epilepsy, muscle disorder, and developmental delays. We believe if those around Shaylee were knowledgeable about reporting child abuse and neglect, and had taken the action to report the abuse, Shaylee would not have endured the suffering pain she lives through daily.
The Shaylee Foundation was established to empower kinship caregivers, who have taken on the responsibility of caring for family members, that have been subjected to an unforeseen separation from their primary care provider. The foundation is currently raising awareness against child abuse and neglect through advocacy and education by providing additional support services and resources for all communities.
